Distinguished Alumni Award

Each spring since 1963, the West Chester University Alumni Association has hosted the Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony. These awards are presented to WCU graduates who have provided a great service to society, received outstanding acknowledgement in their profession, and positively affected a large number of people.

Debra Castaldo

Debra D. Castaldo '78

Dr. Castaldo's distinguished career spans over 35 years as a renowned therapist, educator, and author, making a profound impact on individuals and communities through her expertise in relationship therapy and wellness. Her unwavering dedication to West Chester University is reflected in her active role as a valued member of the CESW Advisory Council, her significant legacy gift through the Dr. Debra Delp Castaldo Endowment in Social Work, and her ongoing engagement with WCU students and faculty. Dr. Castaldo's work, including her media presence, contributions to mental health organizations, and mentorship of future social work professionals, has left an enduring legacy, shaping both her field and the lives of those she serves.

Danny Hale

Danny E. Hale '68, M'74

Danny Hale’s remarkable coaching career, highlighted by his induction into the 2024 National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame, showcases his extraordinary success and dedication to the game. With 213 career wins, 11 PSAC East titles, and 8 NCAA Tournament berths, Hale’s leadership at both Bloomsburg and West Chester University has left an indelible mark on college football. Beyond his impressive on-field achievements, Hale’s legacy is defined by his ability to inspire and mentor student-athletes, helping them succeed both on the field and in life.
