February 13, 2023 | 3:15PM
In honor of Black History Month, join the Museum of Anthropology & Archaeology for a special in-person lecture in Philips Autograph Library by Gwen Ragsdale, founder and Executive Director of Philadelphia’s Lest We Forget Museum of Slavery—the only slavery museum in Philadelphia and the only museum with actual artifacts from the transatlantic slave trade, including one on loan to the Museum exhibition, Beyond the Bell. Using her rare collection as a guide, Mrs. Ragsdale will discuss how different the coming-to-America experience was for millions of enslaved Africans. We will also have West Chester University’s autographed copy of Frederick Douglass’ autobiography on display. The event will conclude with a special reception and a guided tour of the Museum of Anthropology & Archaeology’s exhibition, Beyond the Bell: Philadelphia’s Global Heritage. Co-sponsored by the Frederick Douglass Institute, Anthropology Club, the Institute on Race and Ethnic Studies and the WCU Alumni Association.
