Athletic Training Alumni Chapter
Happy New Year!! Your AT Alumni Chapter has rolled into 2025 by continuing to meet our goals of providing educational and social opportunities for our alumni and to support the continued growth and needs of the AT education program.
• In November 2024, the AT Alumni Chapter in partnership with 3B Orthopedics and Jefferson Hospital Sports Medicine, hosted a free CEU virtual event, “Real World Application of a Concussion Protocol – Minor League Baseball Umpires”, featuring WCU AT Alumnus Shawn Fscani. Shawn is the Manager of Sports Medicine and Performance at Major League Baseball overseeing the health and well-being of all Minor League Baseball umpires. Over 80 attendees learned how the NATA concussion protocols and recommendations were applied to address concussions in the Minor League Baseball umpire population using unique and technologically advanced methods.
• The 2024-2025 AT Alumni Mentoring Program kicked off in October 2024, identifying and matching AT alumni mentors with the 23 2nd year MAT students. This program features four separate classroom sessions, presented by Dr. Paula Sammarone Turocy (’82), that provide students with formal preparation and guidance, designed to complement the excellent preparation that the students get from the current WCU AT Faculty, for their upcoming professional and job searches. WCU AT Alumnus and current AT Faculty member, Dr. Nicky Cattano, joined Dr. Turocy for the February classroom session. The goal of this mentoring program is to prepare the students for mock and actual job interviews that generally begin in March and April 2025.
• Join the West Chester University Foundation, alumni, students, and donors to count down to the 180k goal for the WCU Day of Giving 2025!! The Watch Party from 11:0 AM – 1:00 PM on March 7, 2025 will have some exciting surprises, activities, and giveaways to kick off the 5th Annual Day of Giving. Through this website WCU Day of Giving 2025 · GiveCampus, you can get involved and even ear-mark your donations directly to the Department of Sports Medicine in the College of Health Sciences.
• The students and AT Faculty are beginning to prepare for the annual WCU AT Program Golf Outing scheduled for April 27th at the Ingleside Golf Club in Thorndale (Chester County), PA. Ingleside is an “old school” golf course that will challenge your shot making through the rolling hills located on the 15th President’s, James Buchanan, Jr., country estate. Please look for more information coming from the Program very soon. Monies raised from the golf outing and associated activities go directly to the students to help them cover hotel and other expenses associated with their attendance at the NATA and PATS meetings this summer. A fun time, great weather, and outstanding comradery is promised.
